Stories can pass the barriers of time, past, present, and future.
Storytelling w/o dialogue is the most cinematic way of storytelling.
The elements you provide and the order you put them in is important
If stories go static, they die
Drama is anticipation mingled with uncertainty
Storytelling has guidelines, not hard fast rules
“Spring Wiener” – Woody from Toy Story
Whatever you are good at, you would strive at the second chance given
Summary
Stories should be like joke telling. They pass the barriers of time, past, present, and future. Whatever you provide in the story, is important so putting them in order is just as important. If it goes static, it dies.
By March 2nd, as part of my film team, I will explore the film director’s skill pathway. I will be exploring different types of movement in the world of cinema using different resources such as the book Visual Stories by Bruce Block, for our session 4 project.
Movement
Can be used along with rhythm, running past signs or through doors.
Project Timeline
Feb 18 – Pre-Production work (script and what not)
Feb 23 – Complete prepping for the film
Feb 24 – Rehearse film and figure out lighting positions, camera angles, etc.
Feb 25th – Film
Feb 28 – March 4 – Edit, sound design, post stuff
March 2 – Create presentation showing evidence
March 7 – Present film
Proposed Budget
PRODUCTION – ACTION

Skills Commentary
I was the director for the film, I showed evidence of movement. I would get up after yelling at the milk employee, and I would walk away. It would then cut to a shot of the employee crying, whereas I was then seen walking behind the employee in that separate shot.
POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION
21st Century Skills
Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)
We had some problems along the way and we solved them by thinking of some ways to solve the problems as a team and individually.
Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)
I collaborated with the screen writer on how the film setting should look, I collaborated with the cinematographer on camera angles and good lighting that we should have. I collaborated with the editor on what some of the edits were meant to look like in terms of color correction and saturation. I also collaborated with the audio producer on what music and audio should sound like, especially when it comes to editing the audio.
Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)
Trello, Adobe Premiere Pro, YouTube Tutorials, The Visual Story Book by Bruce Block
Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)
This project helped me collaborate with others and give others specific instructions.
Reactions to the Final Version
“Good over the shoulder shot”
“Black and white went very well, kept us away from distractions if there was color”
“Sound is a little out of sync”
Self-Evaluation of Final Version
I think I did well in my directors role. I gave specific instructions and collaborated with my team members in terms of the edit, the angles, etc. The film turned out great and it was really fun working on it.
What I Learned and Problems I Solved
I learned how to better direct a film and collaborate with team members. An issue we had was that the employees audio couldn’t be recorded with an external microphone. We overdubbed and solved that issue.
By January 28th, as part of team 4, I will explore the role of being a film director. I will do this by following various tutorials, guides, and the resources available to me in the classroom for being a director of the film. I will have collaborated with the screenwriter to make some scenes for our film, followed by creating the scenes for our session 3 project.
Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)
As the director, my job was to come up with different camera angles, scenes, lighting angles, and props to use in our film.
Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)
I collaborated with the screenwriter and the cinematographer within this role to create the scenes and the film overall.
Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)
I used training sources to learn how to become a better director and to better communicate and collaborate with the other team members.
Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)
It can improve my way of living in the world by giving me better communication within different people who I am working with on set projects. It can also teach me how to give others important and specific instructions on what to do.
Reactions to the Final Version
“Casey’s face was funny” -Peter
“Music really fit in” -Bree
“Cuts were great” -Josie
“Funny twist on original script” -Evan
Self-Evaluation of Final Version
I was proud of how our film came out, especially with the editing. The music fit in perfectly and the audio dub overs were synced up amazingly. I am real proud of the entire team on how we did with this film.
What I Learned and Problems I Solved
I learned how to communicate with other group members and solved the problems of having audio not sounding good.
My intention was to create a good film edit that is worth presenting.

Music is correctly synced up during the appropriate parts in the film in which they fit. Primary audio source is correctly synced up with the video. Sound effects are also synced up for their approximate timings. The footage is all cropped at a reasonable time.

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)
Unintentional uses for the music created actually ended up being used in other scenes as they seemed to fit the mood a bit more. Each scene the audio producer would create two tracks to choose from that can be used. The ones that weren’t used ended up being used for other scenes.
Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)
I collaborated with the cinematographer on what different effects should be added and what scenes are what for some of the camera angles. I collaborated with the screenwriter on what order and what takes should be used for each scene. I also made sure that the music was the way he would’ve intended it as he wrote the script. I collaborated with the audio producer by helping him come up with different sound effects for certain events. He also ensured that the songs would match up with certain scenes within our film.
Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)
To edit our film, I used the website known as WeVideo.
Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)
I learned about problem solving and time management. I learned about how we really need to use our time wisely and get everything done by a certain deadline. Organization is key, that’s another thing in which I learned.
Reactions to the Final Version
During the film, as it played people’s reactions were different than others. During certain parts of the film, people laughed and giggled more. For example, during the part where I stomp on Casey. One commented that the sound effect that played there had a very comedic effect and was unexpected. One said that a song was synced up perfectly during a section, which was unintentional.
Self-Evaluation of Final Version
I am happy with the final version of the film. I wish there were some extremely minor inconveniences with the edits. I had wanted to add a scene with a tombstone, but unfortunately we lost a days worth of production time and we didn’t have the time to add the scene. I thought the music and sound effects really made the film what it was. I thought it was brilliant.
What I Learned and Problems I Solved
I learned how to sync up some of the audio with the footage in a good manner, and how to properly analyze takes and use takes depending on how well the acting, and overall production job was on the take. Problems that I solved involved some of the takes being mislabeled, making it a little more difficult to find the correct audio recording for the take. Those issues were fixed by listening and comparing different audios.
This ghost shooter game is a game I created on Construct 3. I followed a tutorial on how to create the game. The tutorial contained the teachings of how to use events, how to print values onto text, how to do basic character movement, and etc. You move around using the arrow keys and you can rotate using your mouse. Each ghost takes a few shots to kill. Once one touches you, you die.
Logline: The player discovers some ghosts and has to shoot them before they catch up to the player.
Goal: My goal for the game was to follow the tutorial without missing anything, and making a game that was playable and had a goal to it. The goal was to get the highest score you can, without dying.
Feedback
“I like how that thing spins fast so it’ll kill those green things faster”
“I like the score system, but (this may be my personal preference) there could’ve been much more enemies, like a hoard shooter, too much downtime between each enemies and once you get the game nailed down you kinda don’t have modifications to the flow”
“It’s very addicting, my high score was 250”
What can be done to make the game better?
“Maybe add a way to re spawn but other than that i think its pretty good”
“Some how try to make it where the enemies are attached to the player so there not just roaming around.”
“Also maybe add WASD so its easier to move”
Were there any problems? If so, then what were they?
I want to create fun little game where you have a little noise maker that you can make music with by changing the pitch by moving your mouse up or down when holding your mouse down. I want to make this a 3D experience based off of the Garry’s Mod addon known as the wowozela.
